Rustic Bathroom with Contemporary Flair

The key to an earthy color scheme is to vary the textures and forms. This bathroom gets it right by pairing a mirror and cabinet of equal scale that both look hand-hewn but aren’t part of a set. The thick vessel sink also has that artisan feeling.

The light stone atop the vanity breaks up the dark woods, as does a pair of contemporary, almost groovy sconces introducing an organic shape to the room.

Traditional Bathroom with Marble and Venetian Mirror

Petite but luxe, this bathroom embraces its original period details, like the tile floor and built-ins, but proves that historical ambiance and glamour can coexist.

Borrowing silvers and grays from the original tiles, this design goes in a polished direction with crystal scones, a venetian style mirror, and an open vanity of chrome and white marble. Contemporary styling would have downplayed the room’s period panache. Traditional materials like marble and crystal play into it instead.
